Background

This document outlines the job description of a software engineer that will work within the Development Team. The role is mainly working as part of the development team in the office, but may also be customer facing in certain circumstances.

Key Responsibilities

The software engineer is responsible for the design and implementation of all WestGlobal software products. These include the Vantify Business Activity Monitoring solution and underlying frameworks. This person reports to the Development Manager.

Specific Responsibilities include:

The Design and Development of product software..
Co-ordinating with Project Leaders and Service Delivery Managers on deliverables, priorities, and due dates.
Maintenance of project status.
Co-ordinating with Project Leaders and Service Delivery Managers on sign off of all project deliverables
Adherence to Development Team standards and practices including testing and change control.
Escalation to the Project Leader and Service Delivery Manager of all issues related to the project requirements and any or all issues that
cannot be directly resolved.
Production of weekly progress reports to the Delivery Manager
Production of design and test documentation
Production and assistance in the production of user documentation

Work Experience

The candidate for this role MUST:
Have at least 5 years work experience.
Be highly motivated - able to bring ideas and project from concept stage through to successful implementation
Be able to successfully work as part of a team
Have worked within a complex IT project environment.

The candidate must have experience with some or all of the following technologies:
Web development environments such as Rails.
Java Server side development experience in test-driven,
continuous integration environment.

Highly desirable:
Web UI development – JRuby on Rails / Tomcat; other EE
containers, Javascript, JQuery, CSS, HTML5.

Relational databases - Strong SQL, Oracle/MySQL.
Experience of scalable, distributed Application Development.
RESTFUL interfaces, SOA.
Server side java technologies - Spring, Messaging, JAVA EE, ORM
(Hibernate), JMX
Testing – Selenium, Rails Unit Test
Maven

Also valuable:
Relational databases - Experience administering, profiling and tuning
Oracle / MySQL databases
Web UI development – Flex, Charting Libraries
C/C++ TCP/IP network programming
Unix development experience with scripting.
NOSQL.

Also advantageous:
Experience of Event Processing technologies: Esper, Drools Fusion.

Education

It would be beneficial if the candidate had:
A 3rd level qualification.
Was an EU citizen, ideally living in Ireland
Native level fluency in English is essential
